mysterious
gates and domes,
stilled clouds above the sea,
waving palm trees, floating boats,
dancing figures and more rhythmic
sounds of colour……
Paintings by Geery Staal
Geery Staal (1953 Amersfoort) studied at the “Amsterdamse Hoge School
voor de Kunsten”, dept. Beeldende Vorming, in Amsterdam (1985-1990).
Her paintings are abstract as well as figurative.
Sources of inspiration she finds in landscapes, architecture(Frysian
“Wadden”-landscape, oriental towns, roman churches, or just
a street with its walls, windows and doors), as well as in model, still
life, fantasies and music.
A painting often is based on some simple forms( like a fish, a bird a
square or a window) ,which gives her the freedom to play with the material,
squares and lines, structure, composition, rhythmic, light and colour.
And it is particulary in this play where you can recognize the artist’s
hand.
The paintings are in oil-/acrylic paint on canvas (or pressed
wood covered with cloth) or mixed media/acrylic on paper (based on monotype
or collage).
Her paintings can be found (for sale or to rent) at several galleries
and institutions in the Netherlands and at the sunday art-market at the
“Spui”in Amsterdam. (see: Home--" agenda")
